“Goddess of Fire” Takes the Winning Baton from “Kang Chi”

New MBC series “Goddess of Fire” has taken its first crown after running neck and neck with other two dramas on the Monday and Tuesday prime time lineup.

The brand-new period-set drama sat atop TV charts after drawing in an average viewership rating of 11.1 percent on July 1 and 2, AGB Nielsen Media Research (Nielsen Korea) showed on Wednesday.

The first two episodes of the 32-part epic kicked off by well-depicting the unavoidable romantic fate between inborn potter Jung (Moon Geun-young, child actress Jin Ji-hee) and Joseon Dynasty’s prince Gwanghae (Lee Sang-yoon, child actor Roh Young-hak).

Stepping up to the runner-up spot was KBS’s romantic series “Don’t Look Back” which posted an average 9.9 percent rating after spending five weeks at the bottom of the chart.

New SBS series “Golden Empire,” starring Ko Soo and Lee Yo-won, began its run this week in last place with an average score of 8.8 percent in the same time frame.

The battle among the three dramas will be fierce since “Goddess of Fire” and “Golden Empire” just premiered and “Don’t Look Back” has yet to unfold its full-scale revenge regarded as the climax of the drama.

Meanwhile, TNmS’s (Total National Multimedia Statistic) survey showed the programs in the same order yet with slightly lower numbers.

“Goddess of Fire” took the top spot with an average score of 10.3 percent while “Don’t Look Back” and “Golden Empire” followed behind with ratings of 9.6 and 8.1 percent, respectively.
